PRP/PRFM Therapy

Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) treatments are non-surgical ways to rejuvenate your skin, hair and body by using your own body. PRP treatments have been used since the mid-90s to help athletes heal from injuries and the same technology is being used to help the skin and hair.

This popular treatment is available for both skin and hair at the Windermere Dental & Medical Spa.

PRP is done by first drawing some blood as if you were at your primary care physician’s office. This blood is then placed into a centrifuge where it is spun to separate platelet-rich fluid from the rest of the blood. These platelets are then injected into the skin or hair in order to stimulate growth and rejuvenation.

The Selphyl® System is designed for the safe and rapid preparation of Platelet-rich Fibrin Matrix (PRFM) from a small sample of blood at the patient point of care. Many PRP systems require operator skill, have varying results and have extensive contamination with red blood cells and white blood cells. Selphyl® removes virtually all contaminating cells and is independent of operator technique. PRP is converted to PRFM through a controlled process, creating a scaffold that serves to protect and preserve platelets. Think of Selphyl® PRFM as the next generation PRP.

PRP is done in two places: The skin and the hair. For skincare, it is done in order to rejuvenate the skin and give it a cleaner, more youthful look. Some of the skincare treatments include:

Facial Injections: PRP injections are good for clients who want to have an injection treatment, but are worried about an allergic reaction. Because the solution is created from the client’s own blood, there is no fear of an allergic reaction to a rejuvenating solution. Once injected, the platelets stimulate growth of new skin cells and collagen which helps refresh the face.

Facial Treatment: Facial treatment is when the PRP solution is applied directly to the face, usually during and after a microneedling treatment, in order to combat wrinkles, pigment and other facial blemishes. This treatment is less invasive than direct injections.

PRP for Stretch Marks: The appearance of stretch marks, especially for women who have had a pregnancy, can cause a loss of confidence in your appearance. Our PRP therapy can also be highly effective at reducing the appearance of stretch marks using your body’s own natural healing mechanisms. We also pair microneedling with this treatment to open up the skin for maximum absorption and results.

You can also use the treatments for hair growth. This is popular with both men and women and has been shown to both aid in hair growth as well as improve the hair you currently have. The process for hair growth is slightly different than when it’s used on the face. Once the blood is extracted and the platelet rich solution is created, the PRP is directly injected around the hair follicles. See our PRP Hair Restoration Page.

Both hair and skin PRP treatments are good for any healthy adults but are especially good for those who have allergies to common skin and hair treatments. Because the solution is organically made with the patient’s own blood, the chances for rejection or an allergic reaction are extremely small.

The benefits of PRP treatment and how you can take advantage of this revolutionary procedure will be explained when you call and set up an initial consultation.
